Style muse: Nina Hagen

Growing up in a country where everybody seemed to look and dress the same, Nina Hagen was the shining beacon of individual style. I loved her snowwhite-on-acid look, her mickey mouse hair style, the thick heavy eyeliner. The woman’s nuts and unashamedly herself, if anyone proves that style originates from true self confidence, then her.

Little anecdote: my boyfriend and I met at a club night called ‘Down the Rabbit hole’. Awww, those were the days.

Topshop have come up with a new range called Wonderland and it has ‘BUY ME’ written all over it.

It’s happened. I finally like something designed by Roberto Cavalli. No, I am not a big fan. Too much gold, too bling, too many animal prints. But I really do like this Just Cavalli Fall 2008 flamingo print blouse.

Not another post about Brazilian fashion

Yeah, I know you’ve probably had enough, but I just must blog about Triton. Over at Kirafashion are some great pictures of their new collection showcased at Sao Paulo Fashion Week. I love the way it ticks off all the trends (ruffels, high waisted, frills) and yet has a unique rockabilly touch to it. Their current autumn/winter collection has some nice pieces too, although it’s a bit too Gossip Girl for me with lots of college blazers, berets and preppy trousers.

Oh those wicked Scandinavians dominate my flickr favourites, and this month’s muse is no exception. Johanna Oest is an artist living in Sweden, and I just adore her retro 1950s/1960s style. I love the way her nostalgic dressing is without a hint of irony, this is not retro mix up, this is not a 2008 take on the 1950s. And please, can I just take over her flat?

There aren’t many contemporary actresses or ‘clebs’ that I really like , let alone whose style I admire, but Chloe is the exception to the rule.

She is beautiful without being your generic beauty. Her style is eccentric, always cool, always hip but she always remains true to herself.
