In the swing of things

Austrian designer Lena Hoschek has just been pointed out to me. I really like her 50s-inspired full circle skirts and wiggle dresses.

I fell in love with Miss Couch
September 10, 2009 · 1 Comment
It seldomly happens that I come across a shop whose entire content I’d happily buy. But is has happened today, I simply love what Frollein von Sofa (that’s Miss Couch to you and me) has on offer. Her fascinators and shoe clips are simply divine.

British street style: skinheads
September 8, 2009 · 1 Comment
I really love this article by Christopher Raymond Brocklebank on QueensOfVintage.com on skinheads. Excellent research and well written.
Excerpt:
Skinheads have long been misunderstood. This subculture’s perceived links to far-right politics have somewhat soured their contribution to vintage style. To make claims for it is to hit a cultural nerve and be laid open to accusations of filtering out noxious ideologies in order to concentrate on aesthetics.
However, things are rarely as black and white as they seem, if you’ll pardon the expression, and while there were undoubtedly factions of racist and violent Skins – those who were afraid of everything and worked overtime pretending they were afraid of nothing – there were legions of other Skins whose way of life was a celebration not of whiteness, but of roots; they were working-class with class.

One thing to look forward to in 2010
September 7, 2009 · 4 Comments
Vintage at Goodwood, a new event celebrating five decades of British cool, is the brainchild of designers Gerardine and Wayne Hemmingway and Lord March (him of the Goodwood Revival). Launching in September 2010, the annual event will be a festival celebrating the best of British design, fashion and music from the Forties to the Eighties.
I’ll be attending their launch event at this year’s Goodwood Revival, can’t wait!

Market Publique: like eBay but vintage
September 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment
New shopping platform Market Publique works like eBay. Except that it only sells vintage. So as a buyer you put down your bids as usual, whereas as a seller you can list your items just as on other online auction houses. The quality of the items on sale is pretty good and most bids are at a decent price although there isn’t much stuff on sale yet.

Leather? Check. Vintage? Check.

I’m really into the whole leather biker thing going on at the moment. I think after having spent the whole summer trying out 40s styles and doing lady-like chic, it’s time to toughen up.
Maybe I should start with this vintage biker jacket from Rokit.

777

I love this week’s 777 event at Shrimpton Couture. It means that seven items from this fab vintage online shop will be reduced in price. Once an item is sold, another one is added. I’ve slightly fallen in love with this 40s pink dress.
