Style muse: The Bright Young Things
October 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Three cheers to excess, hedonism and fun. I love the 20s socialites that became known as the Bright Young Things. They propagated celebrity, pointless partying, elaborate fancy dress events and had their drug den houses coated in foil 40 years before Warhol’s Factory. Their modernity is still incredibly relevant and hasn’t lost any of its charm, shock value and appeal today.

Austrian designer Lena Hoschek has just been pointed out to me. I really like her 50s-inspired full circle skirts and wiggle dresses.

Oh God this Alexander McQueen sequin dress would be perfect for my ‘evil vintage vixen’ Helloween costume.

I’ve just discovered Kleidkunst an online platform for new fashion designers and up-and-coming labels. Although the site is rather badly designed and a lot of the labels feature seriously lack in the fashion stakes, there are plenty of designers that have caught my eye.
My favourite find is Swiss label Goyagoya

I’m always a fan of outrageous legwear and these mock over the knee tights by Henry Holland for PrettyPolly have caught my eye.

I’m off to the Lower East Side tonight
October 12, 2009 · 1 Comment
Unfortunately this won’t involve an actual trip to NYC (sigh), instead I’ll be heading down to Carnaby Street. Throughout October independent boutiques from New York’s Lower East Side have set up two pop-up shops in Carnaby Street’s Newburgh Quarter. US shops taking part in this Wish You Were Here Swap include vintage shop Hairy Mary’s Vintage and intriguing fashion label In God We Trust.
Add to this a New York food market and I’m sold. Someone please give me a Greencard!
