I don’t really know why but I have become slightly obsessed with platform sandals this year. Maybe because they elevate my meager 163cm (5foot3) to never before known heights and give me an almost regal walk (well that’s what I’d like to think, trot is probably more accurate).
I am lusting after these:

My friend Alice just reminded me of the ridiculously high postage costs of ordering stuff from the US, which basically ruin the advantage of the low dollar.

But fret not, there is a solution: MyUS.com. Basically you sign up for a US mailing address, to which you then get all your online purchases send at national delivery rates. You can view your purchases online, and when you feel like having them send to wherever you are, MyUS will forward them to you. Genius.
I first read about this when Susie Bubble used the service to get some shoes from Forever21.

I am planning on visiting the boy in his tropical paradise over Christmas, which means I’ll end up wearing a bikini on a nice sandy beach. Nightmare situation, what to wear…
I’ve found this lovely sweet little number from Agent Provocateur. I love the halterneck, but maybe it just looks a little too much like underwear?

I do apologize for another outfit post…I ended up in Topshop today to spend some of the voucher I got at as a leaving present from my old job. After trying on tons of flower stuff that all looked way too frumpy, I eventually settled on a blue pleat dress and navy themed underwear. Nautical is a huge thing at Topshop right now, as well as Americana, but to be honest, I am really over stars, it’s been done to death.

Today was the first real spring day. The sun was out, and I just basically decided by peering out of the window that I would dress for a warm summer’s day.
As a result I put on my 1950s full skirt by Marcelo Sommer that I had bought in Brazil a few years ago. I wore it with the white H&M top that I’d bought in Zurich and my new Faith platform sandals.

While reading a press cutting from a science magazine, yes really, I came accross an article about a scientist selling off some of her vintage clothes. Dr. Hadwen is parting with some amazing stuff, at very reasonable prices:

I popped round Oasis during my lunch break (it’s bloody impossible to stay away from Oxford Street, if you’re just working round the corner). To my surprise, they do rather nice, retro looking underwear.

There is this amazing little shop called Showgirls close to Highbury Station up on Holloway Road. They stock a fantastic range of latex clothes by Atsuko Kudo. And no, I am not talking about cheap dominatrix style pants that look like they would chafe like hell. Instead expect to find dresses, skirts, tops, accessories and underwear in a variety of colours that will add just the right kind of retro spaceage feel to an everyday outfit.
I especially love the coloured stockings and beret.

As The Iron Chic has been blogging: it is prom season. Not that I have ever been to a prom, we don’t really do proms in Germany, but I feel this might have been quite the blessing looking back at my awkward teenage attempts at dressing for fancy events. The downright ridiculous ensemble I wore for my dancing course when I was sixteen consisting of a floor length black skirt, a white long-sleeved shirt tucked in and a velvet black vest worn on top, will haunt me forever.
Would I have a second chance, I would wear one of these:

There are websites that I should have never come across because of their addictiveness. Etsy is one of them. There are things on Etsy that I’ve been watching for months and months until eventually, in a moment of weakness, I’ll end up buying them.
Currently on my watch list (just a tiny selection of the millions of things):

vintage 40s celluloid and rhinestone knot clip

handkerchief (to melodramatically wave to the boy as I arrive on a visit, ideally on a ship, realistically on a plane)

vintage Berlin map necklace
